New rumors about the Playstation 4 have been popping up lately. I’d like to go more in depth about one of them, which is the rumor that the Playstation 4 would get an extremely cheap price, at the launch of the console. Sony is thinking about a launch price of about 300-350$. This is a huge reduction if we compare it to the launch of the PS3, which was about $600 at launch. There are several reasons why they might do this.
The first, and most logic reason is that they are planning on a long lifespan of the console. They are creating a beast machine with the Playstation 4, so its logical that this will be Sony’s top notch model for the next 8-10 years. In that time there is enough space to make back what the console costed in initial development of the software and system inventions. The powerful processor and videocard are included to give you the best gaming experience that will last for a while. Big developers already have acces to Sony’s new console which is rumored to release at the E3 in 2013.
An other rumor is that the accessories for the Playstation 4 might be a bit more expensive. You can think of PS Move, Controllers and other stuff. The price of the actual games is also not yet known. We do know that the PS4 is going to have a digital marketplace where you can download games directly from your consoles, and then play them directly.
The third reason is that this low price, in combination with high graphics and a great gaming experience, will attract a lot of new customers to the Playstation 4. They might even get some previous XBOX gamers owners to the other side. We can speculate a lot about this, but only time will tell.
